About Us

At Studio Ray, we train performing artists as well those simply interested in improving their health through the power of their breath. Basically the training methods for each group are the same. As a performer, one must learn to master many techniques for projecting your voice to the audience. But, for someone whose goal is improving their health, projection is not a main issue; therefore, strenuous voice training is not required. The production of the voice is not derived from throat power. The voice needs the whole body to aid in resonation.

When using "Chu-shin Kokyu", your exhalation causes your vocal cords to vibrate which in turn causes your whole body to act as a resontation chamber. So, why is making a voice good for your body?

Sound runs along your bones and creates resonation in various chambers throughout the body. "Chu-shin Kokyu" causes both nerve and bone to resonate. This resonation reaches inner muscles, thereby allowing them to relax. Like a tightened screw that is eventualy loosened by vibrations, so the whole body is made to relax from voice resonation. As the ancient Indian practice of Ayurveda Medicine believes there is a way to achieve healing by creating sound. Though the resonation aspect of Ayurveda Medicine has seemingly been lost through the years, a very similar Japanese style called Kotodama (literally, "word spirit") has survived and is still practiced today.
